About the Orkestar
Members: Dushan Rocknage – Accordion/Keyboard/Vocals grew up in Pittsburgh and began playing the accordion at age fifteen. He was a member of multiple junior tamburitzan groups including Duquense Juniors and Golden Triangle. Dushan performed with the Duquense University Tamburitzans from 2006-2010, where he was a dancer, singer, and a musician. He is currently a member of Folk Factory and the Bulgarian Folk Ensemble “Otets Paissii.” Dushan currently teaches two junior groups, the Golden Triangle Tamburitzans and the Jadran Beaver Valley Junior Tamburitzans. Over the years, he has arranged and recorded numerous dance sets for his junior ensembles.
JT Kordesich – Percussion/Brac/Vocals… …began his folk music career at a very young age with several junior tamburitzan groups around the Pittsburgh area. He was a founding member of Orkestar Pobeda at the age of 14, and has continued with the band up to present day. JT attended Duquesne University, where he received a B.S. in Social Studies Education, and was a member of the Duquesne University Tamburitzans. He is an avid teacher and student in the folk dance community, as a member of Folk Factory and an instructor for the Junior Tamburitszans of Duquesne.
Ben Wagner – Guitar/Bugarija… …started playing music at a young age because of his family’s involvement in the European culture. He began his musical career by playing prim, but soon learned the rest of the Tamburitza instruments. He eventually moved on to playing guitar to expand his musical knowledge. From there, he was asked to play guitar with Orkestar Pobeda. Ben was a member of the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, where he learned other various stringed instruments. Over the years, Ben has performed with several bands throughout Pittsburgh including TS Trzalica, Orkestar Tsare, Orkestar Zabava, and Tamburaski Sastav Ponoc. With Orkestar Tsare, he recorded his first album. Ben has taught music and tambura throughout his career to individual students and junior groups, which led him to arranging several pieces of music.
Nikola Vranesevic – Electric Bass/Berde… …grew up with the sounds of ethnic music in his household. He began his musical studies at the age of 5 with piano and then moved to violin and tambura. Nikola graduated from Duquesne University with a B.S. in Music Education. While at Duquesne, he performed with the Duquesne University Tamburitzans where he was primarily a musician. In 2010, Nikola was selected to be the guest conductor for the SFFNA Folklore Festival. He has also arranged musical selections for several music ensembles including the Duquesne University Tamburitzans. He has performed with different bands in the Pittsburgh area including TS Ponoc, TS Trzalica, and Orkestar Tsare. Nikola is currently the music director for the Duquesne Junior Tamburitzans and is employed by the North Allegheny School District.
